Founder/Visionary, and Executive Director of Rural Women In Action, Tammy Kinney, is a cisgender heterosexual Black woman. She is very enthusiastic about her advocacy and activism work regarding HIV, HCV, Substance Use Disorder, Sexual Wellness, Domestic Violence and Trauma Informed Care.
She Lives in Winder Ga., where her advocacy work is much needed due to the continued stigma, discrimination and lack of communication among people who are diagnosed with HIV and dealing with trauma. Tammy indeed is a grassroots organizer in the rural community.
Tammy’s activism has landed her in the first-class of 20/20 Leading Women Society in 2009, the documentary Everyone Has A Story, a member of Common Threads a trauma informed care training, prior Co-Chair of Georgia’s Positive Women's Network USA and she has received the Marcus Ghurram award among other achievements.
Tammy works in Behavioral Health at Advantage Behavioral Health Systems in Athens Ga. She has worked as a Certified Peer Specialist in Mental Health, WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) facilitator, WHAM (Whole Health Action Management) facilitator, and currently as a Forensics Housing Specialist as well as and an Early Intervention Specialist.
Living with Advanced HIV for 36 years. Her personality, character, networking skills achievements and learning to live and thrive with HIV gave her the knowledge and empowerment to understand the needs of not just women and girls of color but of there families as well.
